Joey Johnson

At age 7, Joey began to learn about the inequities in the world when looking through the World Vision catalog with his mother. His concern grew as he learned about children in very difficult situations — child abuse, need for safe homes, education, and medicine — and he told his mother that he wanted to help. Joey was born with a rare, genetic disorder called mitochondrial disease, which produces a wide range of symptoms and severities and has no cure. Despite these challenges, Joey feels blessed to have fulfilled his dreams of finishing a race when he recently completed a triathlon as a wheelchair competitor. The Johnson family continues to give, sponsoring two girls, and has donated many gifts to help those in need around the world.

“My dream is to make it so that every kid who needs that one little thing will be able to get that — to help them in their life...I want other kids to be able to achieve their goals and dreams because we are all in this together.” — Joey Johnson
